Teach In Brazil
I am currently teaching in Centro Educacional Leonardo da Vinci, a private school here in Vitoria, the capital of the state of Espirito Santo.
Some friends have been asking me how I was able to end up here and how I found the job? Online.
It has been a dream to come and live in Brazil, and I was fortunate enough to find an English teaching job, just like how I ended up in China before they hosted the Summer Olympics.
I found this job through, www.goabroad.com
You will need teaching credentials and experiences, as you will need these papers for applying a working visa.
My school offered an initial two years contract and can be extended. Can't disclose the salary here due to contract bind.
Teach In China
I arrived in China in 2006, just right before the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The country, at that time, was in high demand of English teachers, trying to prepare their people for such a huge hosting event.
Chinese are known to impress, after all. The demand was so high that language schools have popped up overnight and started hiring "native English speakers" also known as--- as long as you're western looking and can speak proper English, you're hired, regardless of your credentials and criminal records.
When I left the country in 2014, I believed that there were some major changes made, especially for requiring proper teaching credentials and training. This was after several cases were filed against some foreign English teachers around China for their illegal working visas.
Yes, you DO need to have a working visa in order to live and work in the country.
I may not know the current hiring situations these days, but I do know that there is still a demand for English teaching. I was lucky to have been employed by a legitimate company, Scholastic.
In case you wanted to jump start a career of teaching English in China, I highly recommend to do an extensive research about the company or the school, but most of all, if they can guarantee your working visa. You may be required to present a TEFL certificate (or anything ESL related certificates).
Salary starts around $1,500 a month.
When I was in Beijing, I found my job online through:
Feel free to message me for advise. I will eventually blog my own teaching experience in Beijing soon. Check this page for updates.
What Is TEFL?
The worldwide standard of qualification for teaching the English language is a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), or a certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
TEFL commonly refers to teach English to non-native speakers in a non-English speaking country, such as teaching English to Spanish students in Spain.
TESOL is defined as teaching English to non-native speakers in an English speaking country, such as teaching French waiters living and working in the United Kingdom.
Despite this small difference, TEFL and TESOL are generally used interchangeably and wither certificate is accepted by the vast majority of employers worldwide.
